Rust conversion paint chemically converts rust into a stable black protective layer. Follow our step-by-step guide to treat rusted metal without full blasting for gates, frames and steel parts.
Metal Rust Conversion Paint Application Guide for Rusted Steel
Rust conversion paint saves time on metal restoration. Instead of removing every trace of rust by heavy blasting, it reacts with rust and forms a stable inert base for topcoats.
Step 1: Remove Loose Rust & Dirt
Brush and scrape flaky loose rust, dirt and oil. Firmly adhered rust can stay, which will react with the converter.
Step 2: Surface Wipe
Wipe surface to remove dust and grease. Make sure the metal is dry before coating.
Step 3: Apply Rust Conversion Paint
Stir thoroughly. Brush or roll a uniform coat over rusted areas. The coating will turn dark black as chemical conversion happens.
Step 4: Topcoat After Curing
Once fully cured, apply topcoat paint for long-term anti-corrosion protection.
Pro Tips
This product works on rust, not on clean bare metal.
Wear eye and skin protection.
Heavy rust may need two coats of converter.
