How to Repair Roof Leaks & Apply Waterproof Coatings Step by Step
Roof leakage is one of the most common exterior problems for houses. Once water seeps under the roof layer, it will rot the substrate, damage ceilings and create mold issues. Good roof waterproof coating can form an elastic protective layer to seal cracks, seams and flashing areas.
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Clean the roof completely. Remove loose old coating, dirt, moss and debris. All damaged, peeling parts must be scraped off. The surface must be dry and solid before coating.
Step 2: Repair Cracks & Seams
Fill wide cracks with repair putty. Reinforce joints, flashing and gutter connections. These are the highest-risk leak points.
Step 3: Apply Waterproof Coating
Stir the roof waterproof coating evenly. Apply the first coat along seams and leak areas. After full curing, apply the second full coat for complete coverage.
Step 4: Curing & Inspection
Keep the roof dry during curing. Check for thin spots or pinholes after drying. Re-coat any weak areas.
Pro Tips
Do not apply coating when rain is forecast.
Hot direct sunlight may cause too-fast drying.
Regular inspection extends roof service life.
